Las Vegas is dubbed the Entertainment Capital of the World. Now, the world is a big place so that proclamation brings with it great responsibility and expectation. But after several trips to the city, I understand and appreciate why Las Vegas has the right to that title.
At first, I used to think that the famous strip was the city’s centre of the universe – and it is. More than 25 hotels line either side of Las Vegas Boulevard drawing in crowds with fantastic lights, billboards, restaurants, shops, shows, and grand entrances and lobbies.
Vegas is known for having a lively night scene and luxurious accommodations allowing travellers to bask in the glamorous life themselves.
The Venetian, for example, is a five-star property known for its grandeur, canals mimicking those found in Venice, and contemporary art installations. It has the most sophisticated suites; high-end shops and the best ceiling mural depicting true Italian Renaissance style.
Las Vegas Boulevard also features budget-friendly properties ideal for families and price conscious travellers. The recently renovated Flamingo is a classic resort themed around Miami’s South Beach and Art Deco districts. It was the third property to be built on the strip and has a courtyard which acts as a wildlife habitat for the hotel’s resident flamingos.
Restaurant picks include Sushisamba inside the Palazzo – one of four locations in the entire world – offering a Japanese menu infused with Peruvian and Brazilian flavours; and Aria’s Catch – the newest hot spot specializing in curated menus, handcrafted cocktails and the best in steak and seafood. Side note: the decor is very dreamy and Instagram worthy. As far as the best shows on the strip, check out Criss Angel’s Mindfreak for the most jaw-dropping illusions and mind blowing entertainment; and Vegas! The Show for an over-the-top, Broadway inspired performance by showgirls in all their glitz, glamour and feathers.
Interestingly enough, Las Vegas’s “universe” also extends to the regions surrounding the main boulevard. Travellers wanting to explore can do so through excursions and various activities including helicopter tours; Lip Smacking foodie tours and tours of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.
Now you know that no matter what you decide to do in Las Vegas, it will be fabulous…you are after all in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
