Tips on Tipping

IMG_2348Throughout this road trip, I have been fortunate enough to stay in some of the most lavish hotels in the country in cities such as New York, Miami, Naples and New Orleans.

High-end hotels not only offer the most modern rooms and amenities, they also place a strong emphasis on providing their guests with a higher level of service. This service can include valet parking, baggage assistance, housekeeping and a personal driver.

So, I always wondered how much I should be tipping for some of these extra touches.

According to an insider at the Inn on Fifth in Naples, FL – considered to be one of the richest cities in the U.S. – guests should tip the valet, bell boy and personal driver about $2 to $3 each time they provide a service. As for housekeeping, since this requires a bit more time and care, $5 a day is sufficient.

A lot of the high-end hotels also have their own bars, lounges and restaurants. Depending on the level of service from bartenders and waiters, guests should allocate an 15 to 18 per cent of their bill for the tip.
